Year of Walkability

2022 Year of Walkability in Yellowstone County

The purpose of the Year of Walkability is to identify current efforts and needs around walkability in our community, and to discuss potential solutions to fund and improve our pedestrian infrastructure. The issue of walkability and accessibility is not new to this community and is not an easy topic to address.

Defining "Walkability" and a Vision for Our Future

Throughout 2022, HBD Coalition members and others in Billings, will be organizing and/or highlighting different activities to engage the public, city leaders, professionals, and other stakeholders in this dialogue. Activities will include walking audits and tours, factsheets about various walkability topics, a photovoice campaign for residents to share their definition of walkability, the Billings Commuter Challenge, various safe routes to schools efforts, community forums, and more.

Walk Your Block

Walk Your Block is a Year of Walkability summer event series where residents can meet up with their neighbors for a short walk around their ward. Each ward’s city council representatives are being invited to join their constituents for the walk. These are great opportunities to connect socially while sharing joys and concerns related to walkability in your neighborhood. Walks will be led by Healthy By Design Coalition members. The featured walks can be found on our Events Calendar and the route maps can be downloaded from the Walk Your Block tile below.
